Health and Wellbeing Week

Darlington College will be hosting a Health and Wellbeing week in 2018 between January 22-26, promoting physical fitness and positive mental health techniques. Local businesses are invited to get involved with the event if their products relate to healthy eating, exercise or calming activities to quiet the mind.

Confirmed companies already attending include Fit Fresh, a Darlington healthy eating take-out providing protein brownie, cheesecake and smoothie tasters, and Up & Running sportswear, with a treadmill for ‘gait analysis’, explaining the science behind how each individual runs differently. Representatives from Durham Constabulary will be giving talks on drugs awareness, recognizing their negative impact on physical health, emotional and metal welfare.

The college will also be hosting meditation and reiki sessions to encourage mental tranquility through quiet contemplation and focusing on positive thoughts. Some of these mediations will be held on Queen Street, where the college’s Level 2 Art students will also be displaying a hand-drawn mandala they have designed. This mandala is for the public to colour in, as studies have shown that colouring is a gentle activity that improves mental wellbeing. Darlington College’s Sport Department will also be present on Queen Street leading physio exercises.

Any local organisations that wish to get involved in Darlington College’s Health and Wellbeing week should contact Ross Lowcock at: RLowcock@darlington.ac.uk or 01325 503250
